Newborn Prep Guide

To help your upcoming newborn photo session go as smoothly as possible, I’ve created a list of preparation suggestions:

WARM YOUR HOUSE
Depending on the season, I will bring along a space heater,
but you can also raise the temperature in your home a few degrees.
A warm baby is a happy baby; cold babies are uncomfortable
and can have blotchy looking skin.

KEEP YOUR BABY AWAKE
Keep your baby awake for an hour before your session time.
One way to do this is to give them a bath. It not only keeps your baby awake,
it also will help him/her relax before the upcoming session.

DRESSED FOR SUCCESS
Dress baby in clothes that are easy to take off.
This helps me to get them posed with as little disruption as possible.

HAVE A PACIFER NEARBY
Even if you don’t use one regularly, it can be helpful to use one to use for
just a minute or two as I transition baby between poses.

FEED BABY RIGHT BEFORE YOUR SESSION
It takes me about 5-10 minutes to set up when I arrive,
so you can start feeding just before the session and
we can be ready at the same time.

RELAX
Enjoy the moment. Babies take emotional cues from their parents.
A calm space means a calmer baby.

INCLUDING SIBLINGS
I’ve found it best to have older sibling(s) at the house for the first part
of the session, say 30-45 minutes, then have them go on a fun outing
so we can have a quiet, relaxing space to take photos of just baby
for the rest of the session.
